All students in the school competed a great week of Track and Field events. They learned how to throw a shot put and/or a discus, ran relays, did high and vertical jump, and hurdles. Well done, David Thompson!
Grade 7-9 students have continued to be active during and after their PE classes. As a fun way to share what they are doing, some classes are putting together a Google Slide presentation full of pictures that show them being active. Grade 5-6 students started online learning this week and were given a link with many ideas to stay active over the next two weeks. They can also be active in an other way they can think of! They keep track of all their activities in their Activity Tracker. As grade 7-9 students are moving to online learning, they will be provided with many different ways to keep active during these two weeks. They will keep track of what they do each day in their Activity Trackers. Equipment will not be necessary, but can always be incorporated! We will see you all online, -Phys. Ed. Department
The PE department wishes all students a happy and relaxing Spring Break. Take care of yourself and make sure to be active! Don't forget to keep track of your physical activity over the break.
-Students need to have a pair of sneakers for when they are playing in the gym. Winter boots do not support students in the way they need, especially when they are running and playing games, like volleyball, which some are currently are doing. Students can leave a pair of inside shoes in their classroom.
We have just completed our first round of modules of 2021. We are moving on to some really fun sports and games that we think everyone will enjoy! From March until the beginning of May we will rotate through the following activities: Volleyball Tchoukball Table Tennis Rugby Target and Hand-Eye Coordination Games DPA (Daily Physical Activity) Health
At the beginning of the Semester, students were given an Activity Tracker to keep track of how they are being healthy outside of school. Any type of physical activity counts (30 minutes or more). Next Monday, students are being asked to bring back the completed Activity Tracker for the month of February. This assignment relates directly towards their Outcome 3 mark ( Explores and applies strategies for leading a healthy, active life). Students with Ms. Hidalgo (5-2, 6-1, 7-1, 8-2, 8-4, 9-1) received their parent letter for the health unit: Human Sexuality. The letter should only be returned, if your child is not participating. Those students will do an alternate project in the office during Health.
All students started new units this week and will continue with those units until the end of next week. - The possible modules were: basketball, organized games outside, broomball, ringette, and Gagaball/9 Square. - Human Sexuality is an upcoming unit and students will be receiving parent letters the week before starting. An important reminder to students and parents: We are trying to be outside as much as possible to comply with Covid-19 protocols. Students should be coming to school with winter coats, gloves and proper footwear to be out in the snow each class.
Grade 5 students have been playing low organized games or hockey this week. Be sure to dress warm next week for some outdoor fun. Grade 6 students have been creating dances and playing 9 Square in the Air. Grade 7-9 students have been working out, focusing on mindfulness and doing some yoga this week. Each class we have been working on completing a Wellness Bingo. Try to complete at least 2 activities on your BINGO card this weekend!

Grade 5 students have recently been working on their own dance for the Dance Unit. 5-2 presented today and the dances were really fun and creative! Grade 6 students have been working their way through 3 different units: Dance, 9 Square in the Air / Fitness or handball. Ask to see their dances or how to play 9 Square inn the Air!
Last week, students completed the final activities of their modules. They start this week in all new modules including: Football, Cricket, Hockey and Health. We will remain to stay outside as much as possible. Please dress appropriately.
All classes have started new modules this week and will remain in these units until the end of next week. These units will be outside, so please be sure students are wearing appropriate clothing to be outside in the snow. Winter boots, coats, gloves and hats will be very important as the colder weather begins.
Terry Fox Day This Friday, October 2, we will be having our Terry Fox Run. Students will go out with their homeroom class and try to complete as many laps around the school field as they can during the period. Students are encouraged to dress in their David Thompson colours: Red & Black. They will be moving and showing lots of school spirit, so they should wear comfortable, breathable clothing and running shoes. It is the 40th anniversary, so we are aiming to have every class raise $40 for the 40th.
All Physical Education classes completed their first module on Thursday. Students will now be moving on to their next unit for another two weeks. Students will be completing one of the following units: Disc Golf / Ultimate Frisbee Community Walk and Talk / Kickball Soccer Skills / Games
